At Freedom Off Road, we will endeavor to provide the right information to
ensure that your vehicle is correctly setup to carry a slide on camper. All
vehicles and campers are different. Most of our range is ideally balanced
and weighted to suit particular vehicles. Please ensure that you provide us
with all details regarding your vehicle that you wish to fit a slide on
camper to. We recommend that all vehicles have a minimum of Firestone
airbags with a 100psi rating be fitted to your vehicle. This can be done
prior to pickup at your local suspension dealer, or we can arrange it here
and have them fitted at the time of picking up your camper.
Below is some information on a typical installation. They are very simple
and easy to operate. The airbags will assist in the vehicles ability to
carry a load safely and comfortably. They will not increase the vehicles
legal payload capacity.
Leaf Spring Assist
Airbag Man markets its Leaf Spring Assist products under the "Ride-Rite"
name and proven quality products from Firestone and Dunlop are used.
Ride-Rite air bags mount between the frame and the leaf spring suspension of
your vehicle to assist your leaf spring when under load, especially when
towing. They are ideal for installation onto working utes, 4WD's, light
trucks, vans, and motorhomes and in most cases are fitted to assist leaf
spring suspension at the rear of a vehicle. The heavy duty convoluted air
springs will handle all your levelling needs with load carrying capacities
up to 7,700 lbs (3500 kgs) per set. Ride-Rite airbags allow you to maximise
your vehicles carrying capacity through the use of air pressure. Making your
vehicles suspension adjustable for various road and load conditions.
Ride-Rite airbags are available in kit form with many control options,
however installation by a preferred dealer is recommended.
GVM Upgrades
For those customers, who wish to carry a larger camper, you need to check
the available payload of the vehicle that will be carrying the camper. Heavy
trays and bullbars, winches and extra fuel tanks etc will reduce the
vehicles available payload. Freedom Off Road recommends the services of John
Burke from Specialised vehicles who are based near Camden NSW for RTA
approved upgrades to the vehicles carrying capacity. Most vehicles can have
their GVM legally increased by 500kg without the need for an extra axle.
Upgraded shock absorbers, springs and tyres are checked by John and replaced
if neccesary. The RTA approves the engineers report and a replacement
registration sticker is issued showing the new carrying capacity. Most
states have a similar service available. A GVM upgrade is a simple procedure
requiring only the vehicle to be taken to Specialised vehicles and collected
when ready.
John aslo offers chassis extensions and an extra axle with a larger tray
fitted if required. A GVM upgrade is a simple procedure requiring only that
the vehicle be taken to Specialised vehicles and collected when ready. The
cost will vary from vehicle to vehicle. John can be contacted on (02) 4657
